Compulsory Basic Training - CBT

CBT is a course of tuition and assessment designed to get you off to a safe start. It is not a test, but as a provisional licenec holder it must be completed before you are allowed to ride unaccompanied on the road on a bike or scooter. It is normally completed in one day but it can be spread over a longer period if extra time is required to reach an acceptable standard.

You will learn the theory and the practical skills on the off-road training ground before we take you out on the road for at least a couple of hours. As long as you have studied the Highway Code and are riding to an acceptable standard by the end, you will receive the certificate (DL196) that validates your licence.

Your CBT certificate is valid for two years, after which you would have to do it all over again. Your best option, however, is to progress to further training. Book more bike lessons to pass your test.

Pass Your Motorcycle Test

Rider Training offers a range of courses aimed at taking you swiftly to test standard. The course you choose will depend on your age and experience, and the type of motorcycle you want to ride.

You choose the timescale of your training. You can complete the whole course within a few days or over a couple of weeks. If you prefer not to rush into it, you can spread your training over a longer period and pay for each lesson as you go. We normally recommend two hours per session. You can do longer sessions if you feel up to it but it can be tiring if you're not used to riding on the road.

Check the options available to you according to your age and preferred type of motorcycle.
